Welcome to my new web pages.  I hope you'll visit me often.  I will update these pages often with new news, links and information.  As
this is my very fist blog entry on this my brand new web page... I will bring you up to speed on what's going on with my CHALLENGE
activites.  First, the ride itself.  I will be participating in the LIVESTRONG Challenge in San Jose on July the 13th.  I will be riding 100
miles.  I will also be volunteering at the LIVESTRONG Village that weekend.  I'm really looking forward to the challenge of training for
and riding the full hundred miles!   In other news, I have been selected as one of 1000 delegates to the LIVESTRONG Summit.  The
LIVESTRONG  Summit will bring together delegates from across the country to be inspired, empowered and trained to lead
community-centered efforts to help make cancer a national priority. It will take place July 24-27, 2008, at the Ohio State University
campus in Columbus, Ohio.   During the Summit, delegates will receive education and training in one of the three concurrent tracks:
Grassroots & Advocacy, Grassroots & Elections or Grassroots & Fundraising.  I am really excited about being selected for the Summit
and the opportunity to learn more and to be more involved.
On the fundraising front.  I am in the process of putting together a corporate sponsorship package.   In addition, I will be hosting a
community outreach/fundraising booth at the Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cookoff on June 1st.  Please stop by and say hello... and more
importantly... make a donation!

Tonight I had the pleasure of participating in the Ride of Silence.  This is a ride that took place all over the country and overseas as
well on this date.  The ride is a slow paced, silent ride to honor those who have been killed or injured on the roads while cycling.  In
addition to honoring those killed or injured it is also to encourage motorists to share the road safely with cyclists and to encourage
cyclists to ride safely.  We started out from the Irvine civic center at 6:30 pm for a 10 mile ride through Irvine utilizing both public
streets and bike trails.  The Irvine Police Department escorted our ride and made sure that our group was safe.  I would estimate that
there were over 100 cyclists who participated.  It was an amazing experience.  If you would like more information on the Ride of
Silence you can visit the official website at www.rideofsilence.org.

LIVESTRONG Challenge weekend fast approaching!  Just a bit more than 4 weeks to go and I will be on my way to San Jose!  I'm
looking forward to the trip.  I have been on the bike a lot and plan on getting even more intense with my training in the next few
weeks.  I've been training in the foothills since there are going to be some rolling hills on the ride in addition to one big climb.   The big
climb comes at about the 65/70 mile mark in the ride and will be a solid 2 miles of climbing at about a 10% grade.  Why, oh, why can't
the big climb come at the beginning when we're fresh???  LOL

On the SUMMIT front... I'll be taking off for Columbus, OH just 10 days after I return home from San Jose.  They have announced
the following speakers for the summit:  Senator John McCain,   Richard Carmona (former Surgeon General), Dr. Harold Freeman
(Ralph Lauren Cancer Center), and Stefanie Spielman (cancer advocate and wife of NFL linebacker Chris Spielman).   Should be a
really fun yet informative 4 days with all the speakers and all of the training classes.   Also, the group dinner on Saturday night is going
to be at the Columbus Zoo so that should be fun and interesting.   Friday night being our "free night" I've found the CSI Experience at
the Science Museum just down the road from where I'll be.  So, I plan on having a fun and interesting free night as well.

If you missed me at the Tustin Street Fair and Chili Cook-off... check out the pictures in the photo album.  I talked to many cancer
survivors and families who have lost someone as well as raised $280 for the LAF!
